Storyboard Text

  • If we get caught in the nose, the cilia could catch us or we can drown in mucus.
  • I hear it can be hard for germs to get past the human's outer defences. But once we are inside, we can let the human cells do all the work for us
  • Getting in through the skin is super hard.
  • Ouch, I just scrached my finger open.
  • If you get in with the food you might end up getting killed by acid in the stomach
  • Ha Ha, You're funny!
  • What are those?
  • We are in! Let the party begin.
  • Not if I can help it. I'm going to wash you out.
  • They're going to EAT YOU!
  • Enjoy the party while you can! The body is patrolled by WHITE BLOOD CELLS AND MACROPHAGES.
  • WE NEED SOME HELP HERE!
  • YOU ARE A GERM. I am going to eat you.
  • I am a macrophage and I am trying to find out what you are!
  • None of your business!
  • ARE YOU CRAZY?
  • Good, a Helper T-cell has arrived
  • Disease-causing bacteria are waiting on the fence for someone to prick their finger on the wood. When the farmer scratches his finger, red blood cells and plasma flow out and germs get in.Platelets work to stop the blood flow.
  • Hey, I will take a sample back to my fiends in the Lymph nodes, the lymphocoytes. They will be able to help. I will just have to find a match for the antigen.
  • SO MANY GERMS!
  • Non-specific immune response begins. It does not depend on the immune system being familiar with the germ involved.
  • I will remember you for next time.
  • Get off me!
  • Helper B must have found the correct lymphocyte. Here come some antibodies, Killer T-cells and memory T-cells.
  • You are now marked for destruction.
  • Okay guys make sure you don't get too crazy here.
  • Macrophages have receptor molecules embedded in their membrane. They use these to examine the invader cells. When it recognizes an invader cell, they become crazed germ-eating machines. They also signal for other cells to help fight the intruder.
  • Okay, I'm going in.
  • NOT ON MY WATCH!
  • More neutrophils and macrophages arrive. But they die fast.A helper T-cell arrives. It takes a sample and travels to a lymph node.A specific immune response will be activated.
  • The Helper T-cell found a match for its germ sample (antigen). Killer t-cells (eat the germs), Antigens and Memory T-cells get rid of the germs.
  • If the same kind of germs reinfect the body, the memory cells make it easier to launch an overwhelming response.
