- Polonius: Reynaldo, I need you to deliver these letters and money to Lartes for me, and while you are there, ask around about his behavior.
- Reynaldo: Yes Sir. That's what I thought too.
- Act 2, Scene 1
- Polonius: Yes, act like you sort of know about him already and describe him as one of those troubled young boys.
- Reynaldo: Like gambling, sir?
- Act 2, Scene 1
- Polonius: That’s right, or drinking, swearing, fist-fighting, visiting prostitutes—that kind of thing.
- Reynaldo: But that would ruin his reputation! What exactly are you trying to do here?

- Polonius: I know what I am doing. Once you start to ask the people about him and they start to describe him and where he has been, it will help me know what my soon has been up to in Paris. Do you get my point now?

- Act 2, Scene 1
- Polonius: I know what I am doing. Once you start to ask the people about him and they start to describe him and where he has been, it will help me know what my soon has been up to in Paris. Do you get my point now?

- Polonius: Ophelia, what's the matter?
- Ophelia: Oh, father, father, I’ve just had such a scare!
- Polonius: From what, in God’s name?
- Ophelia: Father, I was up in my room sewing when Hamlet came in with no hat on his head, his shirt unbuttoned, and his stockings dirty, undone, and down around his ankles. He looked so out of sorts, as if he’d just comeback from hell. He came up to me.
- Polonius: Is he crazy in love with you or something? What did he say?
- Ophelia: He grabbed me by the wrist and held me hard, then backed away an arm’s length and just looked at me, staring at me like an artist about to paint my picture. He stayed like that a long time. After, he just left the room looking back at me.
- Polonius: Come with me. I’ll go tell the king about this. This is definitely love-craziness. Love is such a violent emotion that it makes people self-destruct, as much as any strong emotion. I’m so sorry. Did you tell him anything that might have hurt his feelings lately?
- Polonius: That’s what made him crazy. I regret not observing him more closely before I told you todo that. I thought he was just toying with you and meant to ruin your reputation. Damn my suspicious thoughts! Come on, let’s go see the king. We’ve got to discuss this matter, which could cause more trouble if we keep it secret than if we discuss it openly.
- Ophelia: No, father, but I did what you told me to do and sent back his letters and wouldn’t let him visit me.
- Claudius: Welcome, dear Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. I’ve wanted to see you for along time now, but I sent for because I need your help right away. if you can get Hamlet to have some fun, and find out if there’s anything in particular that’s bothering him, so we can set about trying to fix it.
- Gertrude: Gentlemen, Hamlet’s talked a lot about you, and I know there are no two men alive he’s fonder of. If you’ll be so good as to spend some time with us and help us out, you’ll be thanked on a royal scale.
- Rosencrantz and Guildenstern: We’ll obey. Our services are entirely at your command.
- Claudius and Gertrude: Thanks, Guildenstern and worthy Rosencrantz.
- Guildenstern: I hope to God we make him happy and do him good.

- Claudius: Once again you bring good news to me.
- Polonius: The ambassadors are back from Norway, Sir.
- Claudius: Tell me why.

- Voltemand: Greetings, I am here to tell you that the King of Norway has ordered to protect you. Here is a letter.
- Voltemand and Cornelius : Goody bye. sir.
- Polonius: Okay I am just going to go straight to the point. Your son is crazy. We must figure out the cause of this.
- Claudius: I like this news. I'll read the letter later. In the meantime get some rest and welcome back.
- Claudius: Good night and Good Bye.

- Claudius: We will spy on both him in Ophelia in the hobby and see what happens.
