  •
  • Hi, my name is Benjamin Franklin, Ben for short. I was born in 1906, in Boston Massachusetts where I still live. Mt father finds ways to make everything a lesson, and instill things in me to carry with me as I age.
  •
  • My father, Josiah Franklin, is who I learn the most from. He often brings me along when he meets with important people to listen and learn
  • Josiah, good to see you. Would you mind advising me on a matter?
  • Why do such Important men seek your advice?
  • Appearing to be wise is all it takes for others to believe you are wise son. My advice is no more valuable than your own, or even the men receiving it. People just think it is.
  • I want to find out if that is true for myself.
  •
  • If appearing to be wise is all that is necessary for others to see me as wise, what else is just illusion?
  •
  • Sir, I would like to ask you some questions if you do not mind.
  • Why of course young man what can I do for you?
  •
  • Do you meet many wise men working here?
  • All the time. Why do you ask?
  •
  • I would like to determine what makes these men appear wise, and if they truly are.
  • If they appear to wise, what makes you think they aren't?
  •
  • let me show you.
  •
  •
  • Because he is sitting in the front with the rest of them looking onto him.
  •
  • But why does this matter Ben?
  •
  •
  • Of these men who has the most power?
  • Obviously the guy in the chair.
  •
  • Exactly. He looks like he has the most power in the room based on where he sits, not who he actually is, since we do not know him.
  • Your father is truly a very wise man, I wish you the best young Ben!
  • Not only can we not determine who has power based on appearance, a mans wisdom can be equally as hard to detect.
  •
  •
  • My father told me of these illusions people use earlier today. It puzzled me so I set out to to see if it was true.
  • Although I saw validity in what he said, I wanted to see if others came to the same conclusion when presented with the idea. So I approached you, who knows nothing of my previously held beliefs, and we ultimately came to the same conclusion.
  • Now that I have finally concluded my experiment, I must return to my father to tell him about what I have been doing.
  • Father, I have been trying to figure out if what you said earlier was true, and in doing so I have concluded that it is.
  • I'm proud of you son.
  • My father taught me today that not everything is the way it seems. People portray themselves how they want others to perceive them. A man who seems wise may only be acting a certain way to seem so.
