Thank you so much for having me! I have a leafless, yellowish or pinkish brown stem and produce up to 25 small, yellow-brown or purplish flowers. My petals and sepals are often strongly veined with brown or purple and my labellum is tan or purple white, usually 3-lobed and with undulate margins. I have no leaves at all, which is pretty uncommon.
Thank you for joining us, Bletia Spicata. My first question is about your appearance. Please tell us about your labellum, leaf arrangement, height and color.
Yellow and purple are two of my favorite colors! Alright, I have heard that you can survive in a wide variety of habitats. Can you talk a little bit more about that?
Of course! I can live in many places from swaps to desert canyons in the southwest. Typically, I grow mesic to dry soil in forests and over sandstone or limestone.
We are also very interested in how you grow. Can you tell us about that?
I have non coralloid rhizomes in my roots. Normally, I grow to be around 20-80 centimeters tall. I am also myco-heterotrophic and obtain nutrients not from photosynthesis but through mycorrhizal fungi.
