  • Hey Dr. Susan. In my Anatomy class we are about to learn about Body Planes and Sections. I was wondering if you can enlighten me and give me some background information before beginning the topic in class.
  • Hey Chris. Of course I would love to help you understand the body's planes and sections.
  • To distinguish them all there different terms for each plane and section.
  • Ok, well this is what you need to know. Planes are flat surfaces that divide the body or organs in order to expose internal structures.
  • Oh wow. This a lot to take in but, thank you so much. I have a heads up for tomorrows class.
  • Transverse plane passes horizontally through the body producing superior and inferior sections. Longitudinal sections produces a plane running along x axis of long narrow structure. In addition, the cross-section produces a plane running perpendicular to long axis.
  • For example, Sagittal, which means passing vertically through the body dividing them into right and left sections. Frontal plane [asses vertically produces anterior and posterior sections.
