- Ricky arrives with, police officer Andy and Paula from child welfare to meet his new foster carers. His new auntie Bella comes out to greet him but he stays in the car.After inspecting to see whether the house if up to standard, Paula and Andy leaves.After the realisation that Bella is nice, Ricky comes out of the car and gets introduced to Hec.
- Bella decides to bake acake for Ricky's 13th birthday and Ricky is extremelyexcited asit's his very firstbirthday celebration. Bella also prepared a little Birthday song to sing while playing a mini keyboard which is quite catchy.Ricky receives a dog and he names himTupac, after his favourite rapper.
- Ricky plans an escape as he learns that the welfare people are planning to take him back. He runs off into the bush with his backpack and dog but ends up lost. He meetsHec. Hec gets emotional as Ricky points out that he can't read and ends up injuring his leg. Together with their dogs, they are on the run as Hec is featured as a criminal and Ricky as adelinquent.
- After Hec comes out from jail, he reunites with Rickyand makes up. Hectorofficially becomes Ricky's uncle and they venture back into the woods to take a picture of theextinct bird.
- Hec and Ricky find a small cabin andsearch around while gathering some food and supplies. A wanted poster that had their photos. He knew Paula would look for him, but they didn't think it would be a manhunt. A group of people storms in with guns and pin Hector down because they think hekidnapped Ricky and kept him as a hostage. Ricky saves Hec by shooting and demanding all of their weapons.
- As they get surrounded, sam the psycho suggests an option that can take them far away, his old car. Ricky jumps in and gets the car working. Just as they leave, Paula tries to stop them but Ricky and Hec zoom out crashing into things and begin leading a vicious pack of people trying to catch them. Hec is reluctant to do so but he allows Ricky to drive the car out of trouble. Risky ends up crashingand they are both taken to court. Ricky findsanother loving familyand Hec is sent to jail.
