- Hi Luke, where's your mom? We're supposed to be going to the park right now
- I can't wake her up.
- *ZzZzZzZzzz*
- Liz! Wake up!
- *GASP*
- She's drank too much. She's passed out but okay. What do I do?
- Is this my fault? If I never left for this conference I would have been home and I could have watched her to make sure this did not happen.
- Hi boys! Want to play some ball outside?
- What's for dinner? I'm starving!
- Logan, what's wrong?
- I know my mom isn't sick.
- I don't know how to help her
- Jenna's brother-in-law Brandon called her saying his wife wasn't answering and he was out of town for work. He asked Jenna if she could go check on his wife Liz and their sons Luke and Logan. Jenna and Liz were sister-in-laws but also good friends so she agreed and said they already had plans made from the day before.
- I took a nap, it's no big deal. I'm going to go make some dinner for the boys.
- Jenna picked the boys up at 4PM...it's 9PM
- Jenna did not want to alarm the kids so she asked them to go play in the backyard while she checked on their mom, Liz. When she walked into the bedroom she smelled alcohol and saw open containers next to Liz who was unconscious but breathing. Jenna tried to wake her up but Liz wouldn't budge. She heard the boys coming so she quickly closed the door, smiled at the boys and told her their mom was not feeling well and needed a nap.
- Are the boys okay?
- Yes but we both know you aren't.
- Jenna called her husband first, told him about how she found Liz. Jenna's husband Justin said he needed to call his brother Brandon and tell him about his wife and to see what he wanted his nephews to do. They were only 6 and 9 years old.
- I'm sorry, I feel so embarrassed
- It's okay to not be okay
- Brandon was standing in the airport listening to his brother explain what was going on. There was silence for awhile... everyone knows Liz has had a problem with drinking for awhile but this time it was different. It was dangerous to her children and Brandon knew that. He asked his brother if Jenna could take the kids home with her and he was about to catch his flight and he'd be there in a couple hours.

- Jenna told the boys that they were going to come over for a few hours while their mom slept. Both boys were happy to go with their Aunt Jenna and when they arrived to Jenna and Justin's home, Justin was there to greet them with a smile to distract them. But Logan, the older of the two seemed quiet and distant. Jenna knew Logan was not okay and asked Justin to take Luke outside to play basketball with him while she spoke to Logan in private.
- Hi boys! You ready for the movies?
- Thank you guys so much for helping out while I'm at work.
- Jenna tried to keep a straight face and think of the right thing to say in this moment. Telling him he's wrong and convincing him of the lie seemed like the safest option. Then Jenna remembered when she was a little girl, her dad was an alcoholic and no one would be honest with her so she felt confused and sad all of the time. She didn't want her nephew to go through life that way. Logan was only 9 but he knew his mom changed when she drank alcohol. He told his aunt about when his dad is working and his mom would drink too much and sleep all day and night. How he had to make food for him and his litle brother.
- You seem better. Are you going okay, Logan?
- My mom called earlier and she said she is doing good and we can see her soon.
- Brandon had landed and was walking up to his house when Jenna called him. She told him about her talk with Logan and that Liz needed help. Brandon told Jenna he has been trying to help Liz but she doesn't think she has a problem and that she is in denial. Brandon said he was scared and didn't know how to help her anymore. Jenna said she thinks it's time for an intervention, Brandon agreed and said he needs her help.
- Brandon walked in their room and Liz was sitting up awake drinking some wine. She jumped up and said she didn't know he was getting home early. She said she would go make the kids some dinner, not realizing they weren't there. Brandon looked at her with disbelief and told her they weren't there. Liz said she thought they were outside playing and that was why she was able to nap, because of how quiet it was.
- Jenna and Liz were not only family but friends and Brandon wanted her support there for both him confronting Liz and for Liz to know she cared and loved her. Jenna told her that her boys were okay but Logan is scared and Luke found her unconscious. Liz broke down and started to cry, she told Brandon and Jenna she doesn't know what to do but feels ashamed.
- Jenna could tell that Liz was feeling overwhelmed and asked Brandon if it would be okay if her and Liz went outside to talk. Liz broke down and said she knows she needs help but can't on her own. Jenna told her about her experiences as a young girl and how her father battled with alcoholism and the effects it had on her. Jenna told Liz she loved her and doesn't want her to effect her children the same way.
- Liz knew she couldn't do it on her own and wanted to be a better mom for Luke and Logan. Brandon and Liz agreed she needed to be apart of a program to get help she needed away from the boys so they did not have to see her struggle with it. Luke did not understand but Logan was able to more. He told his mom that he loved her and that he was happy she wanted to get better.
- Brandon's fear was that if Liz went to rehab he wouldn't have anyone to help with his sons since he still has to work. Jenna and Justin assured him they would help in any way that they could. Jenna worked from home so she was able to help. It takes a village to raise kids and family is important, and helping was important to everyone involved.
