Mike's River of Life

- On May 24th, 1983 Ana Maria and Larry Friedman had their baby boy, Mike. He had an older sister, Laurie, and 2 older half brothers, Andrew & Douglas. His half brothers had left Miami for college, and Mike grew up with his sister and parents.

- Growing up, sports was a BIG part of family life. Mike’s dad played multiple sports, including college football. Mike’s Mom was a famous kickball player in Cuba. And, his sister, Laurie, played tennis. Mike played competitive tennis and basketball growing up. He excelled in tennis tho!
- Mike’s family was big on traditions. Monday through Friday nights they always had dinner as a family. Either Mom or Dad was at EVERY practice and school event. And, the holidays were a big deal. Everyone got together and it was always a good time.
- Education was a big part of the family. Mike’s father, brothers, and sister, all went to Ivy League universities. As the youngest, Mike put a lot of pressure on himself but never finished his degree. Nonetheless, everyone was supportive of him...but it wasn’t until he was older that he stopped being so hard on himself.
- On May 22nd, 2011, the family experienced a tragedy. Mike’s dad committed suicide ... changing everything overnight. Mike was 26 years old and found himself needing to become the primary care taker for his mom. A few years later, the stream was calm, and Mike & Jess were happy to purchase their first home.
- In 2012, Mike was ready for a career change. While being recruited to Home Depot he paused to think about what would make him happy, and where he would feel challenged. Thankfully, he was able to get a job at Apple where he was able to re-charge his career. Apple truly made a huge difference in his life.
- In 2015 Mike & Jess got married, and he joined the Capital One family shortly after. So many things came together for him here...a new professional challenge, great co- workers, and work/life balance. Mike and Jess were ready to start their family and Angelo was born on September 20th, 2016.
- 2018 was a tough year. On May 16th, Mike took his mom in for what was supposed to be a routine medical test. Due to a complication she was put on life support, and Mike made the decision to let her rest after 6 days.
- With brighter days ahead, Mike and Jess are excited to bring their second baby boy in to the family. His name will be Gabriel, and Angelo is thrilled to have a baby brother. The Friedman family is growing, life is good, and the future is bright.
