I am a Buddhist monk. Buddhism is the oldest practiced religion. Buddhists believe that when you die, you are reincarnated based on your Karma. Karma is the belief that everything you do in life matters, and when you die, it is added up, and you will either be reincarnated into something good if you were a good person, or something bad if you were a bad person, such as a banana slug.
The founder of Buddhism was Siddhartha Guatama. He was a wealthy prince in Ancient Nepal, and had a sheltered life. He was sheltered as a child, but moved by the suffering of others. He spent his life embracing poverty, but also the midway between two extremes. Here is a simplified version of his life.
Help me
All good here, Lord Guatama.
Whenever Sidartha left his parents’ castle, they tried their best to cover up any suffering and sickness. However, he was not convinced.
Oh My Gosh!
One night, Sidartha snuck out of the castle, and saw the world for what it really was. Full of sickness and suffering, and this moved him deeply.
Whenever Sidartha left his parents castle, they tried their best to shield him from any pain, suffering, or sickness. However, he was not convinced with their charade.
Sidartha gave up his privileged life for one of poverty. After finding out that this was not fulfilling for him either, he became determine to lead a life between the two evils, living in neither poverty nor luxury.
Buddhists believe that he spent six months searching, and found enlightenment, or nirvana, underneath a Bodhi tree, which is also called the tree of enlightenment. The sight of his enlightenment is now the sight of the largest Buddhist temple, called the Mahabodhi temple.
After finding nirvana, he spent the rest of his life preaching and teaching his ways, hoping to teach others how to also achieve enlightenment.
