- Mrs. Cook wasn't present at any of the court hearings. Gault was forced to be in juvenile detention for six years while an adult accused of the same crime would only have to spend two months in jail and pay a fine of $50. They didn't record anything that was going on. Faults parents didn't like this answer so they filled a petition for a writ of habeas corpus.
- The petition was dismissed by both the Superior Court of Arizona and the Arizona Supreme Court. The U.S. Supreme Court accepted their request and unanimously agreed that his rights were violated and overruled another court case.
