- As both my father and my mother had to go to work, I need to do all the domestic work like cleaning, cooking and taking care of my brother. I once believed in gender roles in the society: Men have to earn a living and women should do all the domestic work. I didn't question about it at that time.

- I grew up in a Chinese family. Traditional Chinese families considered that boys are more important than girls as they won't leave the family when they get married. Being the older daughter, I was taught to let my younger brother having all the things he wanted, even I want them myself. I was taught to be accommodating , although I always questioned about why should I do so.
