- Your first assignment for Qual 1 is to complete your readings and write a personal subjectivity statement. Your statement should be a summary of who you as a researcher are related to what and whom you re studying in yourresearch project this semester.
- I'm still trying to wrap my head around how reflexivity is more than just reflection - it's more about how the research is affected by the people and process of creating the research.

- In completing qualitative research, I'm a part of the research process. In conducting my interviews, I am bringing my own experiences and bias to the research.
- Because I am the research instrument, I can do better work if I understand myself in relation to the research and the people in it. I can be more helpful if I explain my background and bias. Sometimes my bias could be a positive characteristic.

- As I prepare to write my subjectivity statement for class. I think it is most important to include these things when I am working on researching women in SEC athletics executive-level leadership roles...
- I am a wife, a mother, and a journalist. I was raised by two college gymnastics coaches who spent their entire careers in the SEC. My mom was an executive level leader for many years, so I've seen a lot of behind the scenes things. I believe in college athletics. I don't think women are given the same opportunities as men in that arena. I am extremely liberal. I also consider myself a feminist.
- Wow. I've come a long way down this path. A subjectivity statement is important because it will show who I am in relation to the research I'm going. It's okay that I have some background in the area and care about the opportunities women have in this work.
