Outside the woods a house lay basking in clear October sunlight; trees a riot of color, the air full of Autumn’s

tang and the sharp, exciting smell of moist, leaf-covered earth.

Inside the house was Judson Webb's special closet and in it he kept

guns, ammunition, fishing-rods, tackle and liquor. Not even his wife was allowed to have a key to it.

While talking to his wife, Marcia, Judson reveals his plans to do something to the liquor to stop the person who had broken in last winter permanently.

When she found this out Masia tried her hardest to get him to change his mind, but it was all in vain, for even she couldn't change his mind at this point.

“You wrong me, my dear. I’m not taking anything out of this bottle. I'm merely putting a little kick into it.”

"My possessions are for me and me alone. No one else can touch them"

“Judson! You’re not taking a drink at ten o’clock in the

morning!”

“When it comes to protecting my property I

make my own laws.”

“Don’t do it, Judson,” she gasped. “It’s horrible— it’s murder.”
