Maya is an immigrant girl who one day was at school, she saw that the vice president came and asked for her, Here she felt very anxiously and terrified since the vice-president of the school wanted her to go to the principal's office and she didn't know why so in this part, the tone was anxious. She could show how worried and nervous was her.
???
" My fingers tingled with fear"
In this part of the story, since Maya is walking down the hallway to go to the principal's office without any clue of what was going on, she has a mixture of feelings, she felt anxious and scared of what was happening since she didn't know a thing .
"What was wrong? What have I done ?"
Here, Maya felt very worried about her brother. The tone here is a very worried tone since her brother fought someone and she didn't know if he was all right or the consequences that this would bring his brother.
Hi Maya, you are here because our brother did something really bad, he hit another boy because he was mocking him so he "defended" himself by punching him.
"Is Nurzhan all right? Who did Nurzhan fight?
Here, when she was alternating the information, the tone here is a cruel tone since, although she did this for a good cause, she lied to her dad. Also, a kind of guilty tone since she knew that the principal was saying something to her and she said another thing for protecting her family.
"The other boy, Ossie Nishizono, was a little hurt"
"The other boy, Ossie Nishizono, needed 2 stitches at the hospital"
" We have a policy that anyone who fights must be suspended from school. Both boys will receive a 2-day suspension"
Although she felt bad for saying lies and it is a bad thing. The tone, as well, would be compassioned since she was, in a certain way, thinking and protecting her brother since she knew all of the consequences this might be bring him, so by saying a lie, she was helping him to not get in such big trouble.
"The other boy, who is very bad, is not allowed to come to school for 2 days and his parents must punish him. Nurzhan must stay home too. But he should not be punished so much."
The tone for this part of the story is fearful. She was afraid of what might happen since she changed the principal's words and because of the thought of what might have happened if she hadn't changed those phrases.
"Maybe I should've felt bad about changing Mr. Shanaman's words, but I didn't. I only felt afraid."
