- Rainsford, a big game hunter, is traveling to the Amazon on a boat. He falls off the boat and is stranded on Ship Trap Island.
- Climax
- Rainsford finds a house where he meets General Zaroff, a very skilled hunter, and his servant Ivan. Zaroff invites Rainsford in for a drink where he explains to Rainsford that hunting animals is boring and that he started to hunt humans.
- Falling Action
- Rainsford must survive a 3-day game where he is being hunted by Zaroff. Raisford plant traps and is using all of the things he has learned about hunting to survive.
- Resolution
- On the last day, General Zaroff sends out his hounds to find and kill Rainsford. However, Rainsford jumps of the cliff to appear that he is going to die. General Zaroff assumes that he is dead and goes back to the house dissapointed in Rainsford.
- Rainsford survives the jump and swins to the house before Zaroff. They both duel to the death to see who gets to sleep in a comfortable bed.
- After killing Zaroff, Rainsford sleeps in the bed has never slept better.
