  • I hate school!!! I want my mom! I don't want to come to this room. I hate you too!
  • Oh B I can see that your Monday has not started in a great way I have some new books you will love would you like to take a look at them?
  • I hate your books! They are for babies! You can't make be read that garbage!!!
  • B stop. It is not ok to throw my new books. I will pick these up then you will sit down in the chairs with me at talk to me and tell me why you are feeling like this.
  • My dad left again yesterday for work. He won't be back for 6 months. We travelled all weekend and I feel so tired but I am hungry. We woke up so late and I did not get breakfasr.
  • Ahhhhh I understand completely. Lets take a few breaths then you can get something from the fridge for breakfast. I hope you get a better night sleep and you get to facetime with dad all the time. I am always here for you.
  • Take a few deep breaths and tell me what has you so upset this morning.
  • Monday Morning: We had a plan in place that student B comes in early each morning before students as he has aggressive and violent tendencies. He often ran out the door and after mom. He was clearly upset and yelled at the door after I closed it and mom left.
  • An offer that usually gets him on track is lego or dinosaur books. He was having nothing of it. He threw the new books all over the class and smashed his hands of the table. I stayed calm but gave him a direct instruction to stop and sit down. I knew that if he would sit down we he would often talk to me one on one. It had taken me months but we had built a strong trusting relationship.
  • Turns out that Dad (a diamond driller working out of the country) had just left the night before for 6 months. They had a jam packed weekend full of family fun and late nights. It was a go go go morning and he just needed to take a moment and slow down. He was tired and very hungry. He ate, had a lie down on the comfy bench and was ok to go after that. On days like this he needs monitoring all day.
