- Hey Dad, I’ve heard something about a law called Newton’s first law of motion, what is that?
- Yes of course Rohit, Newton’s first law of motion is by Newton. This law is also called as the law of inertia.
- Inertia? What is that dad?
- Well in simple words, the tendency of an object to continue in its state of motion
- So Dad If that is themeaning of inertia,then what is the lawof inertia.
- Yeah, I do
- Well son, let me giveyou an example, yousee the ball that weare playing with?
- So Dad If that is the meaning of inertia, then what is the law of inertia.
- Well son, let me give you an example, you see the ball that we are playing with?
- Rohit heard about this law in his bus, the senior students were discussing their question papers to see if they got their answers correct. While they were discussing, he stumbled upon Newton’s first law of motion.Out of curiosity He had asked his father about it while playing football with him
- Oh, I understand now, so when an object remains at rest, it will continue to be in a state of rest until an external force is acted.Right?
- You see how the ball is at rest, not moving at all, but when we apply an unbalanced force to it moves.
- Rohit had never heard about Inertia, he was confused about the word so he had asked his father, after getting to know about it, he got more and more curious to know more about the Law of inertia.
- Yes Rohit, you are right, but this law does not follow on for ob-jects at rest, it also follows for objects that travel at uniformmotion
