  • Oh I'll use UBD because it has advantages like knowing what direction I am going before I start the lesson. I will already know the assessment for my students so I'll know what to cover. UBD also helps plan teaching content in an orderly fashion way.
  • I have to think of a method to teach my students when I get back from summer vacation.
  • The first stage of Understanding by Design is Identifying Desired Results/Learning Goals. What I need to do is establish goals. Establishing goals is to decide what students will learn and be able to do.
  • In the first stage I need to figure out what the big ideas of the unit are. The big ideas are The concept, Theme or process for a subject or a topic
  • The second stage of UBD is Determining Assessment Evidence/ Feedback and Assessment. I want to understand in this part of how my students will know what I want them to. Feedback and assessment is where you give the student an activity which is a part of performance task and you want to give them feedback on what they did wrong or right. Then you would give students something like an informal assessment.
  • A performance task is a way to determine if the students learned what was taught. It can be an activity or project and is considered an informal assessment.
  • I need to do a storyboard showing the different parts of a cell. My teacher told me this is considered a performance task. This will show her that I have learned what she taught in this biology chapter.
  • The last stage in UBD is that I plan my lessons with the Learning Plan. This where I need to decide what we will in the classroom to prepare them for the end assessment. A part of this stage are the learning activities which are different ways I will teach my students. This will assist with the teaching and learning process. The teaching and learning process is the transformation of information from teachers to their students.
