- In 1803, President was looking for way to expand the United States territory. The French purchased it for $15 million.

- Lewis and Clark traveled up the Missouri river. There explore the Louisiana Purchase to see beauty land. Clark said that the water in the Kansas River tasted disagreeable to him.

- Zebulon Pike described Kansas as a desert though land worthless plains.He said that these huge plains may one day be celebrated in the same way that Africa's sandy deserts are.
