In the dream Gilgamesh had, Enkidu was the one who was chosen to die. Slowly, Enkidu began to wither away. Enkidu was calm but he was troubled when he slept. Do not forget. Alas, I do not die in battle. I am cursed. Who will remember my name?

Gilgamesh laments and mourns Enkidu's death. The people will weep for him and so will the rivers. He gathered goods and precious ivory, gold, and lapis for Enkidu's journey to the underworld.
Tablet 11
Gilgamesh is stalked by death and is still sad about Enkidu. He resolved to find Uta-napishti and would journey across a dangerous mountain. He would go alone.
Tablet 12
Gilgamesh needed to cross the ocean to find Uta-napishti. Urshanabi the boat man would be the person who takes Gilgamesh across the sea. Gilgamesh would find Uta-napishti and is given wise advice about life.
Gilgamesh wanted immortality secrets from Uta-napishti and first he is tasked to stay up for a week but fell asleep fast. He was then told of a plant that he could eat to make him immortal. He would get the plant but it was stolen by a snake. He had achieved nothing.
Gilgamesh talked with Enkidu and asked what the underworld was like. Enkidu told Gilgamesh that if he were to tell him, he would not be able to handle it and that he would weep.
