  • Climax
  • Connor is reckless but can always keep calm under high stress situations. This is shown when he escaped the police before getting transported to an unwind facility that takes them apart. Lev is stubborn as it took the entire book for him to warm up to the idea of staying alive. RIsa is persistent becauseeven after getting backstabbed by her teachers she still has the will to live.Oa
  • Symbolism
  • The main conflict is man vs. society. The parents of the main characters give up their child's right as an individual to the government who takes them apart so they can be used as spare parts. The children must go against this society that accepts this as normal.
  • In the climax, before the main characters were going to be unwound at Happy Jack harvesting camp. Last moment, Lev and a group of other kids suicide bomb the camp by turning themselves into the bomb which allows the other main characters and the rest of the kids at Happy Jack to run free.
  • After the news that somebody escaped the police by fighting back and managed to escape, this individualis dubbed Akron AWOL who is Connor. The name Akron AWOL is treated like a deity among unwinds and it becomes a symbol of resistance against the society that no long accepts them. The staff's own announcement that they've taken Akron AWOL does not deflate the spirits of the Unwinds there. Instead it takes a boy who was only a rumor and turns him into a legend (Shusterman, p. 267)
