Storyboard Text

  • Curtis lived on Rivermill farm. The crows weren't really scared of him, but nobody seemed to mind. He had lots of friends on the farm.
  • One day, the farmer's nephew came to live at the farm.
  • Curtis thought he might have a new friend, but the boy was not friendly and was very mean to him.
  • Hi There!
  • You're not a real scarecrow! You can't even scare the crows.
  • Every day for months, the boy would tease and taunt Curtis on his way to school and on his way home.
  • If it isn't the dopey scarecrow who can't eve scare a bird!
  • Curtis tried to ignore the boys taunts, but eventually he started to wonder if he was useless. He sat down and cried. He knew he couldn't take any more, and it was time to leave the farm.
  • He packed his things and set off. As he passed the barn, he heard voices arguing, and he peeked in through the window
  • I know it's hard, dear, but the boy lost both his parents. We have to give him some more time.
  • I can't handle this insufferable boy any longer. I just don't know what to do about him!
  • Curtis thought about what it would be like to lose your family and your home. He realised that the boy was grieving, and his bullying was probably a way to hide his sadness and fear.
  • He lost his family and had to move away. I feel bad for him.
  • Something changed right then and there. Curtis decided that the boys words were just words, spoken out of pain. He was going to stay, and no matter what the boy said or did, Curtis would not let it hurt him.
  • Someone's words can only hurt me if I let them, and I will not let them.
