Hey Steven, and Anjali. I have a question. How does the idea of correct or incorrect ways of speaking in America affect society?

Jennifer, considering you said, in America. One can assume that American English is the correct way of speaking. This mindset singles out immigrants with English as their second language and other minorities as speaking incorrectly. As a result those minorities and speakers of different languages may face discrimination in education and the workplace
The educational system is geared towards the enfranchised so this idea of what correct or incorrect further marginalize certain cultures. THis is evident in Latino, African American, and English as second Language communities
That's true Steven. Teacher are more likely to correct students using African American Language as if they are making a mistake, even thought speaking differently doesn't mean speaking incorrectly

So, Language isn't just about communication but about Identity and culture
Right. Schools and workplaces should recognize and respect different languages instead of viewing them as a deficiency
When we value linguistic diversity, everyone has a better opportunity to succeed in society
