In the Mid 1800's not many schools were around, children like a boy named Hann and others rarely went to school and some couldn't. But this all changed and soon New York had set up public elementary schools in every town. Still most schools did not admit girls of African Americans. Later in 1837 Oberlin College in Ohio became the first to admit women as well as men. Not soon after had Hann become the first president of a new college for men and women.

Education Supervisor
I agree!!!
Hann as a young boy only went to school 10 weeks a year. When not at school he worked on his families farm. Before the reform their were very few Public schools around and Private schools cost far too much for many.
Hey! You three are simply just not allowed!
As Hann grew up he decided that this needed to change. Children would steal destroy property and set fires and he believed that education would solve this. So in the 1820's he had Public Elementary schools in every town.
You are all welcome her!
Hann became the Massachusetts state supervisor of education. He spoke out that towns and villages needed Public schools. The Massachusetts citizens agreed to be taxed on Better schools, higher teacher salary, and establish special training schools for teachers.
But in some areas Public education was not allowed for some people like African Americans and girls.
But than is 1837 Oberlin College in Ohio became the first to admit women as well as men. Hann became the first president of a new college for men and women.
Yay! Thank you so much!!
