Here the embalmer is getting water from the Nile, to bring back to the body to begin the mummification process. They believed that to mummify a body was to prepare it for the journey to the afterlife.
Step Four: Stuff the Body
After the body had been washed, it was time to take the internal organs out. They would do this by making a small incision on the left side of the body. The organs would be washed and then packed with natron before being put into jars. the heart was left behind because they believed it was the center of intelligence and needed in the after life. The brain was broken up by a small hook stuck up the nose and then left to drain out, they did not believe it to be of any use.
Step Five: Wrap in Linen
After all the organs are taken out, the body is stuffed and covered with natron, a salt like substance, to be left and dried out for 40 days.
Step Six: Finish With Prayer
After the 40 days, the body is washed with the Nile River water once again, and then they apply oils to the skin to keep the skin elastic-y. All the natron is scooped out from the cavity and then filled with saw dust and linen to give the body its shape.
Now the body is wrapped in linen starting at the head and neck, then the arms, fingers, and toes. The legs are wrapped separate and then tied together.
The last things to do are to place amulets on and around the body and then a priest is brought in to say a prayer. the now mummified corpse was put into a coffin and the persons belongings was put in their tomb along with the body.
