- Coyote was walking over the mountain plains and came across an old skull. The skull happened to be a buffalo bull skull.
- Coyote
- Coyote saw a buffalo charging behind him and asked his spirit helper for help. Suddenly three trees popped up from the ground, and the buffalo chased coyote up the tree.
- and The
- Buffalo bull chopped down two of the three trees, and on the third, coyote asked for a smoke and the buffalo refused. Coyote questioned him and he said lost his herd to young buffalo. Coyote told him he would make him a new set of horns if he let him down.
- Buffalo
- Buffalo was pleased with the talk that he decided not to kill coyote. Coyote got out of the tree and made new horns. His spirit helper gave him a flint knife and a stump of pitchwood.
- To repay coyote for making him new horns, buffalo bull gives him a cow. He tells coyote to never kill the cow and it will supply him with a lifetime with meat. He must cut off small chunks of fat when he is hungry, and rubs ashes on the cut and it will heal immediately.
- Coyote betrayed buffalo bull and killed his cow. He believed buffalo bull would never find out. When the cow died a bunch of crows came and ate all the meat, then an old lady ran off with all the bones.
