- This is because our skin gets dried and due to this, the tiny sensors in our skin tells the messages to our brain that the skin needs to warm. Our brain sends messages to our nerves to tighten and loosen our muscles very fast. And we call it shivering. And this shivering causes because, when our muscles move they generate the heat that time.
- Why am I shivering while I’m cold? Can’t even control myself.
- Yes there are multiple ways on which you can stop yourself from shivering. For example: forget about the cold, because it’s easier to not focus too much on your feelings, try to do something else and focus on other stuff. If you have a hat, a pair of gloves, socks, you can wear them on. Drink a lot more water. Don’t stay in one place, try to move around like going to the bathroom.
- Is there a way to stop myself from shivering?
- (15 mins later, after practicing the process his sister told) I am not shivering now. I am feeling warmer after wearing gloves, socks and walking around in the hall.
- It’s because shivering is one way that your body tries to produce more warmth and make up for all the heat it's losing to the cold air. The process that you did to warm yourself down which biological systems try to maintain stability while adjusting to the cold air is called homeostasis.

- You’re getting the tiny bumps on the skin, what are those?
- Those are the goosebumps. They are created when tiny muscles at the base of each hair, known as arrector pili muscles, contract and pull the hair straight up. The reflex is started by the sympathetic nervous system.
- They look so scary. Am I gonna be okay?
