  • Stalin decided to make Russia a totalitarian state where he could control almost anything and anyone. In addition to that, he used collectivization and his five year plans to modernize Russia as he felt necessary.
  • Stalin's choices for the future of Russia
  • WWII Potsdam Conference
  • After Russia’s successful victory in WWII, tension arose between them and America. Russia had been communist ever since Lenin’s rule and the American president aimed for containment- so although they allied during the war and peacefully split up Germany into their own land during the Potsdam conference, Truman and Stalin continued to loathe each other.
  • Gorbachev Reforms
  • With the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Chernobyl incident, the new president of Russia, Gorbachev had a lot on his back. During his time period, he introduced ideas such as Glasnost and Perestroika. Gorbachev hoped that reforming the country to be less strict would result in people speaking out, introducing more ideas that he could put into use.
  • Lenin, Stalin, and Gorbachev were all USSR leaders that had one thing in common: the belief of Communism in Russia. To this day, Russia is still communist and they continue to ally with China as well as detest America’s capitalism. They continue to spread communism and that can be seen in the invasion of Ukraine in an attempt to annex it back to Russia, thus forcing them to fall under communism.
