- Setting: Rising up from the coral reef within the ocean the boy swims through the water to reach the canoe.This is important because we need to know that the boy is swimming in the ocean coming up from the bottom to get to the canoe
- characters: Boy, Grandpa, and SharkThese three characters are important because the boy is out swimming the shark to get to his grandfather in the canoe to be safe and not food
- External Conflict: The boy out swims the shark coming at himThis is important because the boy would die and the story would be over if he got eaten by the shark
- Dialog:The grandpa waved his arms over and over again to tell the boy to come up to safety that something bad was coming but the boy wanted to get the spongeThis is important because the boy almost died because he did not listen to his grandfathers warning
- Irony: The boy did not listen to his grandfather to come up when he asked him to and out of nowhere the shark appearedThis is important because the grandfather told him to listen because his dad died years ago from a shark
- Theme: He did not listen and he almost diedImportant because he could have died like his dad.
