Storyboard Text

  • Hi, I'm Hedgie the Hedge Hog! I'm about to travel through the layers of the Earth! On my Journey I will learn more about what goes on beneath our feet. I hope you'll join me! Here we go!
  • Asthenosphere
  • It's hot down here, I better put on some protection, and get out my oxygen tank. The mantle is the thickest layer of the earth at 1,800 miles, and is 1,000 degrees C! The mantle also includes the lithosphere, and asthenosphere. the lithosphere is made up of the upper mantle and the crust, and the asthenosphere is a plastic layer within the mantle, I'll be coming up on that soon! It's so hot that this layer is starting to become liquid, I should get out my freeze ray, so that I can turn the magma into rock! I also have to worry about those convection currents! This is gonna be a long hike.
  • Mantle
  • Lithosphere
  • Convection Current
  • Crust
  • I've entered the Crust, and I'm making my way through. I estimate that I have made it about 8 miles through, and it's starting to get hot even though this layer is only 15 degrees C, and the rocks are getting hard to drill through.. But the good thing is I'm almost half way through!
  • Continental Crust
  • Oceanic Crust
  • Okay, I am almost there! The mantle took forever to get through! and now I'm on to the 2nd thickest layer... the outer core. It just keeps getting hotter and hotter! I better upgrade my freeze ray! It's about 5,000 degrees C down here, and there's 1,400 miles of it. this layer is made of liquid iron and nickel.
  • Outer Core
  • Well I'm back on the surface, and cooling my heels. I hope that you enjoyed my tour and that you will join me next time, when we head to space, see you then !Bye!
  • Inner Core
  • I MADE IT! I'm at the inner core! the solid center of our world! even though it's the hottest layer of the Earth, it's solid! this is because of all the pressure that is being applied to it. It's a hard ball of iron and nickel. And it is certainly hot (7,000 degrees C) my paws are burning up! See you back on the crust!
