  • The Indians that Cortés left behind while attacking Narváes revolted against the Spaniards that he left behind to keep an eye on them. On one occasion, the Spaniards dirupted a religious ceremony and caused an outrage. However, Montezuma was able to calm the crowd. Later the Aztecs would turn against Montezuma. Officials were encouraging the commoners to defy Montezuma. They decided to elect a new leader; Cuitlahuac.
