Soldiers kicked down the houses on the streets of Eritrea and Ethiopia. Alem felt afraid. Frightened, he didn't know what to do.
Home for Boys
Alem's father left his son in England. He was alone, no money and a little food.
Alem is found by the Refugee Council, and put to court to decide whether he should stay in England or go back to Africa.
My dearest son,I am afraid that i have to tell you some very bad news. Remember I told you in my last letter that darkness is well upon us. Well I have searched for many weeks trying to find your mother. I am afraid that she is no longer with us. Be brave my son. I will come to England with you as soon as i can. All I'm asking for you is to be strong, together we will make it through darkness. With Love and Care,Your Father
Alem is put into a home for boys. Scared and disappointed he runs away. Where he finds himself lost.
Alem is left with the Fitzgeralds, and starts a new life at school. He is struggling to fit in but he finds a friend who supports him.
