  • What's wrong, Andrew? You look upset..
  • Well Riley, I overheard Peter talking to Sean in his office earlier. He just gave him a promotion and a raise.
  • Oh wow! Good for him. But why does that make you upset?
  • It's just not fair. I've been with the company for 10 years. Then this guy who's been here for only a year is getting paid substantially more than me. We both put the same amount of effort into our work.
  • Well you know they went to college together right? They’re old friends...
  • ARE YOU SERIOUS? That is completely biased.
  • What are you going to do about it?
  • I'm going to give him a piece of mind.
  • I need to speak with you about my pay.
  • Hello Andrew, how can I help you today?
  • I know I’m being paid less than I should and I’m also aware that you gave Sean a raise.
  • My point is that I have been with the company for a very long time and I work extremely hard to help the company get the job done, yet Sean has been here for about a year now and you gave him a raise. I think that is unfair.
  • Oh, what about it?
  • I disagree. Myself and the other employees have been working equally hard and Sean and I have the same strengths. We do our jobs about the same without one exceeding the other. I feel that I am not being recognized for the work that I do and that it is unfair for me to be getting paid less than the new guy.
  • Well, Sean has been performing extremely well and his work has resulted in astounding outcomes for the company.
  • I also understand that you and Sean go way back, but I feel that you are being biased in your decision of giving Sean a raise.
  • I'm very sorry Andrew. I was not aware of of this.
  • Yes, that is fine.
  • Can you come back to my office tomorrow morning and we will discuss more about your pay?
  • That will be great. Thanks boss.
  • I will have a discussion with him too about lowering his pay and make sure that you guys are getting equal pay.
  • I appreciate you talking to me about this. Maybe I am paying Sean a bit too much.
  • Peter: No problem.
  • Are you coming to the company picnic tomorrow?
  • I can’t, I have to help my son write a case analysis for his Managing Organizational Behavior class.
