Checks and Balances in 1787 Paysen Lamoureux

Storyboard Text

  • My name is Frankie Federalist. I am an American in 1787. I believe that our new government should be a strong national government and I support the ratification of the Constitution.
  • My name is Axel AntiFederalist. I am an American in 1787 and I believe that the Constitution needs a Bill of Rights before it is ratified because it does not support State and individual citizen's rights as much as it should.
  • My name is Compromise Charlie and we need to find a solution in order to get the Constitution Ratified.
  • We can keep the Constitution the way it is written. That includes a system of checks and balances, three branches of a strong Federal government that have the ability to check each other's power. We can also create a Bill of Rights. This would create a process to amend the Constitution and also allow for State and individual rights.
  • How will these checks and balances work?
  • The Legislative branch will make the laws and control the funding of the government.
  • The Executive branch approves the laws and carries them out. The Executive branch can veto the law but the Legislative branch can override with a 2/3 vote.
  • So the Judicial branch would interpret the laws and the Constitution? That might just work!
  • What a great compromise this government will be amazing!
