- June 1, 1796
- History of Tennessee
- Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto is the first European to arrive in what is now Tennessee.
- The Confederacy
- Statehood
- Tennessee is the 16th state admitted into statehood on June 1st, 1976.
- Tennessee is the last state to join the Confederacy during the Civil War. Five years later, it is the first state to be readmitted by the Union.
- MLK
- Hydroelectric Dam
- Civil rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated on April 4, 1968 at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. He was Memphis to support the strike of African-American sanitation workers who protested for equal wages.
- I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.
- The first hydroelectric dam in the state is built by the Tennessee Valley Authority. It brought economic development to the state and controlled flooding.
