- Julius Caesar was born on July 12 or 13, 100 BC, Subura in Rome into a patrician family, the gens Julia, which claimed descent from Iulus, son of the legendary Trojan prince Aeneas, supposedly the son of the goddess Venus. His father died when he was just 16, leaving Caesar as the head of the household.
- As a military commander, Julius Caesar lead the Roman army in conquering Gaul (France)Caesar would go on to form the First Triumvirate with Crassus and Pompey. The Senate worried the alliance of these powerful men would weaken their power and the power of the patrician class, which it did. Caesar was warned not to cross the Rubicon River by the Senate, but he did so anyways and started a civil war.
