- INTRODUCTION:"Morning in Nagrebcan" is a short story set in the Philippines that depicts a dysfunctional rural family. The story begins at sunrise, with the mist dissipating from the surroundings and no people in sight. Gradually, roosters, goats, and carabaos start making morning noises as they roam the streets.
- EXPOSITION:Early in the morning, Baldo stepped out of his house through the sawali door to play. He noticed four white puppies but opted to play with his favorite black-spotted one. The black-spotted puppy is the source of an argument between Baldo and his younger brother, Amboy, which will lead to violence from their father, Tang Ciaco.
- CONFLICT:As Baldo played with the puppies, Ambo suddenly woke up crying. Their mother, Nana Elang, comforted him and offered him a banana. However, Baldo grew upset when Ambo ate the entire banana, skin, and all. This sparked a heated argument between the two brothers, which escalated when Baldo refused to allow Ambo to touch his beloved black-spotted puppy.
