- The three witches are planning to meet with Macbeth.

- My worthy Cawdor.
- There has been a battle with Scotland and Irish invaders. King Duncan has been told from the captain that Macbeth and Banquo showed courage and bravery in the battle. He then decides to reward Macbeth with the title 'Thane of Cawdor'.

- Great Glamis, worthy Cawdor,Greater than both by the all-hail hereafter!
- The witches tell Macbeth and Banquo about their strange prophecies.
- Act 1, Scene 67
- Duncan thanks the two generals profusely for their heroism in battle, and they profess their loyalty and gratitude.
- Lady Macbeth reads Macbeth's letter stating the promotion to become Thane of Cawdor and him meeting the witches.
- King Duncan goes to Macbeth's castle and is welcome by Lady Macbeth.Macbeth leaves the dinner because he is worried about his plan to murder King Duncan.
