Hi I am Aaron and today there will be a new student joining us. I am so excited show her around the school and introduce her to all our classmates. Hopefully we have stuff in common.

When class started Miss Appleberry called Sarah up to the front of the classroom. "Class this is Sarah, she will be joining us for the rest of the year. Sarah, would you like to tell the class some things about yourself?" asked Miss Appleberry. At first she looked a bit shy but at this question Sarah perked up and stated, "I am the smartest kid in this whole dumb school". The teacher did not like that one bit and asked her to tell all of us something nice about herself but Sarah just stomped back to her desk.
I know the answer Miss Appleberry.
Miss Appleberry continued on with class. When she asked for someone to come to the front of the class to answer a math problem on the board, Sarah was scowling when I was picked and she wasn't. "Teacher's pet", Sarah whispered as I walked back to my desk. That did not seem very nice.
Music Class
That's okay, I can use this spot.
Soon it was time for music class and I hoped it would go better! Sarah took Lucy's spot. Sarah looked at Lucy and told her, "Go find your own spot, this one is mine now". Lucy did not like this, but she wanted Sarah to feel welcome so Lucy choose somewhere else. Even though Sarah got what she wanted, she seemed mad!
Later at lunch time Lucy and I were talking about recess. We were going to see who could swing higher. I had been practicing, pump your legs in and out. I noticed that Lucy was crying and I thought I had upset her. "We do not have to see who can go higher on the swings if you don't want to." I said to Lucy. She just shook her head at me and we kept moving down the line. I noticed that Sarah was behind Lucy and she looked like she was up to something.
That is not very nice of her!
When Lucy and I sat down at the lunch table I was so shocked. Lucy was very upset and still crying. "What is the matter Lucy? If you are too scared to swing high we don't have to. " Again, she just shook her head. "Sometimes it helps to talk about what is bothering us Lucy." When she told me what had made her so upset I was even more shocked! Sarah was poking her in the lunch line and that is not nice at all! Lucy and agreed this had to stop. Before we could come up with a plan the lunch bell had rung and it was time for recess.
Oh know, what do I say?
I decided right then and there Sarah and I needed to have a talk. "Hey Sarah, can we talk please?" Sarah came over and she looked kind of worried. "Sarah, we do not do those type of things to each other here. We are not mean to our classmates as they are our friends. I think you owe Lucy an apology." She didn't really say anything but she hung her head and followed me.
I was just really scared!
We found Lucy on the swing and immediately Sarah started apologizing. I was surprised by this change but very happy. "I accept your apology but I do not understand why you would do those mean things", said Lucy. Sarah looked embarrassed and said, "I was scared because I was 'The NEW kid' and I thought no one would like me. I am really sorry I acted meanly".
The afternoon went much better! Sarah even got in front of the entire classroom and apologized. That took a lot of courage. When I told her this she said, "Aaron I think you are the one with the courage. If it wasn't for you standing up to me I could still be just as miserable and scared". Soon it was time to line up for the buses.
As we made to get on the bus we realized we all had the same bus route, Lucy, Sarah, and I. We only lived a few houses away from each other. I am glad we got a new student today because I made a new friend today as well!
