Storyboard Text

  • QUOTE from MILKWEED by Jerry Spinelli
  • Mr. Milgrom continues to celebrate Hanukkah despite all the horrors, death, and despair. He teaches Misha and Janina the importance of holding onto their humanity. When the candles run out, he proclaims "we will be the light" and leads them to dance around their tiny room. The moment is a remarkable and poignant reminder that despite the unspeakable atrocities of the Holocaust, the spirit of the Jewish people survived by sheer will.
  • "And so Hanukkah is eight days when we remember that time, and we remember to be happy and proud to be Jews and that we will always survive. This is our time. We celebrate ourselves. We must be happy now. We must never forget how to be happy. Never forget." - Mr. Milgrom to Misha and Janina
