The Southwest Region stretches from the Southwestern states of Arizona and New Mexico, parts of Colorado, Utah, and Texas all the way to northern Mexico. It is filled with very dry deserts as well as mesas, canyons, and mountains. These activities will allow students explore the culture and traditions of these First Nations people.

  • Permanent settlements, or pueblos, were built of stone and adobe into great multistory dwellings similar to apartment buildings.
  • Morality tales told to teach lessons about proper behavior to children. They usually featured an animal who was misbehaving or rebelling against authority and the consequences of his actions.
  • Clay pots made with adobe clay that would harden like cement. Pots were typically decorated with black geometric designs and were used for cooking, serving, and storing food.
