  • This story takes place in the 1920's, during the jazz era. Nick Carraway moves to Long Island. He moves to a place named West Egg and lives next to a man named Jay Gatsby.
  • RISING ACTION
  • 5 years before the present, Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan dated. Daisy is Nick's cousin. Daisy was Gatsby's first love, and she had a big influence on his life. Eventually, he leaves to go fight in the war. Once he came back it was too late and she was now married to Tom Buchanan. She also has a daughter with Tom.
  • CLIMAX
  • Nick receives an invitation to Gatsby's party. He was one of the few people who were actually invited. Nick notices that Gatsby is yet to be found and is starting to be consumed by the rumors that surround him. Eventually, Nick ends up talking to Gatsby without realizing it. Gatsby invites Nick to fly his hydro plane with him.
  • FALLING ACTION / RESOLUTION
  • A little bit after going out on the hydroplane, Gatsby admits to Nick he has a favor to ask him. Through Jordan (Nick's love inetrest and professional golfer), Nick finds out that Gatsby and Daisy used to be lovers. She also tells him Gatsby's favor which is; having Nick invite Daisy over, while Gatsby is there as well. Nick agrees and Daisy eventually comes over. The two past lovers reconnect, but not in the way Gatsby wanted. He realized it wouldn't be so easy for Daisy to just get up and leave.
  • Shortly after meeting at Nick's house, Daisy and Gatsby started seeing each other more often. On one hot summer night the climax of this story happens. Tom starts being suspicious of the two and when they get to the city he confronts them. Daisy tries to tell Tom she never loved him. He knows shes lying and uncovers the truth of how Gatsby has his money. Gatsby tries to convince her otherwise. Tom gets Daisy to admit she loves him. Stratified with her answer he sends Daisy and Gatsby back home.
  • While Daisy and Gatsby drove through the Valley of Ashes, Daisy ran over Myrtle. Myrtle was Tom's mistress and she thought it was Tom driving, so she ran to the car. Daisy and Gatsby immediately fled. When Tom, Nick, and Jordan were on their way back they saw what happened. Wilson, Myrtle's husband, was absolutely distraught. He had found out she cheated and then she died. Tom planted the seed by saying it was Gatsby's car. They all eventually made it home. A day later Wilson shot and killed Gatsby in his pool and killed himself. After his death Daisy and Tom fled, leaving NIck alone with his grief.
