- Well, I need a job.
- Johnny is very selfish because all he thinks about is himself and what he needs. He does not care about anybody else.
- Oh, yeah, and Rab has been taking me home.
- What?!
- Johnny burns his hand pretty badly, because Dove gave him a cracked crucible, but Johnny was being a jerk and demanded it rudely.
- I'm sorry, but I have to go.
- No, Rab! Don't leave! You could DIE!
- Johnny is looking for a job because he can not be a blacksmith apprentice anymore. So he becomes responsible for his actions and finds himself a job. But he is also doing it for himself, and not helping the Laphams.
- OK!
- Fix me, Doctor, so I can save my country.
- Johnny freaks out when he hears that Rab has been taking Cilla out and he gets all defensive about her. This is because he has a major crush on her and cares about her.
- Rab leaves and Johnny is upset because now his best friend is risking his life, and Johnny can not go. This upsets him because, with, his hand, he is practically useless.
- Johnny decides that he will let Dr. Warren fix his hand so that he can go to war and fight. Johnny's selfish ways are completely gone.
