- I'm sorry James but you didn't make the team.
- James is very sad. He tried so hard, but it didn't work out in the end. He was really looking forward to playing on a team with his friends. When he arrived home from tryouts, he cried a river.

- James cannot stop thinking about not getting cut from the team. He feels as if he should quit basketball and not even try out next year. His mother said he should keep his head up, and try not to be so bent out of shape.

- James is watching all of his friends show off their skills. They all jump high like kangaroos while, he can't touch rim. He is discouraged and doesn't think that he will make the team, yet he doesn't stop trying until the end.

- James, just because you failed, doesn't mean you should give up.
- James's tells his dad about what happened. His dad talks about how he shouldn't give up. He told him with a little practice, he can boom threes on the basketball court!

- James does what his dad says. He goes and practices at the gym everyday to improve his skills. Now he is determined to make the team. He is a beast on the court.

- When tryouts roll around, James is one of the best on the court. Because of his hard work and dedication, he made the basketball team. He is very happy he is on the team with all of his friends. He can't wait to go home, and tell his dad how awfully good tryouts went!
