The great compromise was the combination of the New Jersey and Virginia Plan to create a bicameral legislature that granted government representation in one house equally and in the other by population, fixing the major disagree concerning representation in the legislative branch.
The state delegates were in a disagreement with one another, because some delegates from the northern states were against slavery, but the others from the southern states didn't want to make it illegal. Both sides disagreed on how to count the enslaved population for representation and taxes, which led to the Continental Congress agreeing on only counting 3 out of every 5 states when determining a state's total population, considering slaves to only be 3/5 of a person.

Federalists vs. Antifederalists
Great Compr: What is a bicameral legislature?
3/5 Compr: Why did nobody butt in and say that this wasn't okay?
Federalists Vs Antis: Why did the Anti-Federalists want to fix the Articles instead of replacing them?
We must create a secure government!
Federalism is a principle of the US. constitution. It is the powers that are divided between the federal and state governments. The federalists wanted to get rid of the articles of confederation, give power to the U.S. Government, and believed the bill of rights weren't necessary. On the other hand, the anti-federalists wanted to fix it the articles of confederation, keep power in the states, and were worried that they'd lose their liberties without the bill of rights. Thus, the U.S constitution was created as a do over of the Articles. It divided the powers of the state and central government, limiting the central government, and reserving certain rights to the states.
