The school bell rang, and all of the children ran outside to the lunch tree.
As they were running to the playground a tub full of noodles, broth and vegetables fell out of Dave’s lunch box.
Dave’s face turned bright red with embarrassment as Keyra and Aylah laughed and asked why hisnoodle water was so dirty.
Mr. Terrelloverheard the children bulling Dave and insisted the class sit down and sharewhat they had in their lunch box.Aylah was eagerto share first, she had a ham sandwich with an apple, Keyra had a muscley barand a yoghurt, and Mr. Terrell had a large green salad. Mr. Texplained to the students that its ok to be different and asked Dave whether hewould be commutable sharing a little bit about his culture.
Dave sharedthat that they wear “uttarasanga” which is a special type of clothing that symbolizedrespect and how they follow their culture. He let them know that buddests arefound all over the world and their main rules they live by are about the truth.After hearingthis Aylah was inspired to share some of her culture Indigenous culture is madeup of five interwoven elements: land, family, law, ceremonial, and language.
They’ allagreed to be respectful towards each other and their beliefs and culturaldifferences. To end this special moment catholic Keyra ended in a short prayer.
