Odysseus and his crew head out to the land of the Cyclopes, where they will face some problems.
Once Odysseus and his crew arrive, they enter a cave which has sheep, cheese, and milk in giant quantities. As they are eating, Polyphemus comes to his home and finds that they have gotten into his rations.
Angrily, he began to ask them why they are in his home. When Odysseus asks for a gift, Polyphemus declines and instead eats some of his crew. .
Once Polyphemus leaves, Odysseus starts to brainstorm of a way to escape. Once he devises a plan, he asks Polyphemus if he wants some wine. He accepts and drinks away, becoming drunk. When asked for a name, Odysseus says his name is Nohbdy.
Eventually, Polyphemus collapses to the ground from intoxication, which gives Odysseus and his crew the chance to stake him in the eye with the burnt wood they found earlier. He wakes up with a yell, his neighbors come over to see what wrong. When he repeatedly says that Nobody is doing this, they assume that it was the gods so they don't intervein.
After Odysseus found his escape under the cyclops's rams and in the morning Polyphemus lets them out to graze in the fields. However, when Odysseus curses out the cyclops, he begins to pray to his father, Poseidon, and begged that he would never see his home in Ithica.
