"Good morning Ms. Jones! I am eager to speak with you regarding my son's goals in the program. "
"Good Morning Mr. Smith! I am so glad you could make it to discuss Mike's goals in the gifted program."
"Regarding our last conversation about your son's eligibility in entering the gifted program, we are excited to welcome him. Gifted education does differ from his normal general education classroom. There are a few ways he will receive differentiated instruction that we can discuss to best support Mike. "
'Yes, thank you. He is very excited to work on cool projects like robots and advanced math! Could you tell me more about what his learning will look like?"
" Yes, of course. Mike scored a 131 on the IQ test we gave him. This puts him above average compared to students his age. Based on these results and his teachers' observations, he is eligible for the program. Our school offers a gifted pull out class once a week where Mike will be with other gifted students. He will work towards a specific goal that aligns with his assessment results. He will complete projects and experiments to support that goal. "
"Our team felt like Mike's goal should be oriented around creativity and problem solving. He showed a strong score in problem solving and his teachers have noticed strong creativity skills in the classroom."
"Okay, that all sounds great. But what about the other days when he is not in the gifted classroom?"
"Great question Mr. Smith! In his general education classroom, they have opportunities in small groups to receive differentiated instruction. This means that Mike will be placed with other students on his level to work with the teacher on meaningful work and lessons. He will be able to do higher level work with his peers. While this is not the gifted class, he is able to receive more challenging work during these times."
"Thank you for this information. I am excited to see him reach his goals with everything you all are doing for him."
"We are excited too Mr. Smith! We believe that Mike needs these different services in order to reach his potential. The pull out class will serve as a time for him to receive different instruction and lessons. He is going to do great! If at any time you would like to discuss his plan or have questions, please feel free to reach out to us."
"Great! That sounds wonderful. I appreciate you taking the time to talk with me about Mike's future in the gifted program. "
