  • Hello Students! Today we'll be talking about the Scientific Revolution and its impact in History.
  • My name is Shawn Bacon, fun fact, I have the same last name as Francis Bacon, an English philosopher that developed the Scientific Method.
  • During this time intellectuals focused on science principles and ways of looking at the world leaving behind strict religious beliefs.
  • In this period 2 philosophical movements emerged. Rationalism and Empiricism. Both of these are quite the opposite.
  • Empiricism focuses on the idea that all knowledge comes from experience and by using human senses. It denies the existence of innate ideas.
  • Innate ideas are concepts that are believed to be of universal knowledge, knowledge that people are supposedly just born with.
  • On the other hand, Rationalism strongly believes in the existence of innate ideas and relies firmly on the deductive method.
  • The deductive method is pretty much the use of plain logic to draw conclusions based on general knowledge.
  • During this time we also had 3 important events that reflected the impact of the Scientific Revolution.
  • The EnlightenmentThe French RevolutionThe Industrial Revolution
  • These intellectuals got inspired on the ideas presented by the Scientific Revolution.
  • The Enlightenment was also a philosophical movement that got its name from the amazing impact it had on decreasing human ignorance, thanks to the knowledge discovered by intellectuals during this period.
