Micheal is a 13 year old boy, who is forced to pretend he's a Nazi with his family for survival. In this scene him and his family are at a dinner with the Nazis when the captain of the German army come up to him to tell him how good he has been doing with German . Micheal is annoyed because he hates pretending to be one of them and he gets told this all the time but his dad comes over and agrees about his German.
Your German is so good!!If I didn't know your father was the Irish ambassador, I would think you grew up here in Berlin!
Michael's always had a good head for languages! We've only been here for six years, but he already speaks better German than I do!
My hand to God, birds frighten the pants off me. One bird I'm alright with, though I'm still not a fan. But get a group of them together, all lingering about in a tree or an electrical wire and I'm out.
In this scene Simon, a Jewish and British air force pilot, (Micheal new friend) describes his fear of bird but this is a very important scene because in the background there's booms and aircrafts crashing and so much going on but Simon is only bothered by the birds. He goes on the explain his childhood after and explains things about how hard his father was on him and horrible things that happend to him.
It's not fair!
Welcome to the world of international espionage. (the act of being a spy)
In this scene Micheal is leaving to go the the US excited the tell everyone about the work him and his family have done, they have been sending important information about the Germans to Allies for years. Agent Faulkner tells Micheal that he is never aloud to tell anyone because they came from Ireland which said they wanted to remain neural but Micheal and his family spreading information about what they did could ruin it. Micheal feels this is very unfair and that they have been working so hard just for nobody to ever know.
